June holidays are right around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to slow down and spend some quality time with the whole family! If you’re like most parents, you’re probably wondering how to keep your kids engaged and happy without relying too much on screens or scheduled activities.
The good news is that you don’t need to spend money on expensive outings or elaborate plans. Sometimes the simplest ideas make the most lasting memories. Sometimes the best days are the ones spent exploring outdoors.
Here are some fun, easy and enriching outdoor activities you can enjoy with your children this June holiday!
Picnics and kite flying at Marina Barrage
Kids don’t need much to have fun. With wide open lawns and a stunning view of the city skyline, its an ideal spot for a day of relaxation and fun! Bring a ball or frisbee and a kite, and time is sure to fly by.
Kite flying is a great way to develop hand-eye coordination and understanding of cause and effect. Running with the kite to launch it is great exercise, and the open space is perfect for kids to run safely. Even just lying on the picnic mat together, watching the clouds and identifying the shapes you see can be a sweet moment of bonding with them!
Nature walks and flower hunts at Botanic Gardens
Singapore Botanic Gardens offers shaded trails and lots of open spaces for kids to explore nature! Turn a walk into a mini adventure by going on a flower or leaf hunt. You could also prepare a simple checklist of things to spot like ants, butterflies, squirrels or different coloured flowers!
Being in nature helps kids build observation skills, curiosity and sensory awareness. Children thrive in natural environments where they can move freely and ask questions as they discover the world around them.
Biking at East Coast Park
Cycling is a great way to spend quality time while keeping active! There are also wide open spaces for running and the famous Marine Cove playground. Your little ones will have a blast climbing the mini rock walls, climbing nets and exploring the tunnels and slides.
Beach day at Sentosa or Pasir Ris beach
Let your child get creative in the sand with buckets and shovels! Building sandcastles, digging holes and collecting seashells is not only fun, it’s incredibly beneficial for sensory development, motor skills and imaginative thinking. Add more fun to the beach day and bring along some food to have a picnic by the sea!
Hiking Adventures at MacRitchie Reservoir
With the right trail and a bit of preparation, kids can hike too! MacRitchie Reservoir offers several accessible hiking paths, including boardwalks and shaded forest trails that are suitable for younger ones.
Walking through the lush forest, spotting monkeys, birds and squirrels makes it a mini adventure. Try the Treetop walk for the older kids or stick to the shorter nature trails if you’re with smaller children. Hiking helps children develop resilience, spatial awareness, and a love for nature, all while giving them space to burn off energy.
Why outdoor play matters for children
In Singapore, screens and indoor play are unavoidable, and the June holidays are the perfect time to shift the balance towards going outdoors! Here is why it matters:
Physical development: Running, climbing and balancing strengthen muscles and improve coordination
Social skills: Playing with friends helps children learn to cooperate, share and communicate
Mental health: Sunshine and nature reduce stress and promote better sleep and mood - for both kids and adults!
Cognitive growth: Exploring nature, asking questions, and solving problems during unstructured play all support early learning.
From kite flying at Marina Barrage to hiking the different trails at MacRitchie, these simple outdoor activities offer more than just something to do together — they provide valuable developmental experiences for your child.
If you’re looking to complement these activities with something more structured, Infiniti Kids has multi-sports classes on Saturday mornings. With a new sport every month and age appropriate activities, it’s a great way to expose your child to new sports and the skills that come along with the different sports.
